Leak Detection
Are you a business or property owner? Whether you are municipal, commercial, residential, or a mobile home community, facing the emergency of a water leak can be challenging. Water leaks caused a mage to property, putting you or your tenants at risk, or possibly shut down your water service.Managing the unknown of a water leak is always unpleasant. Prowler Water is here to help you feel educated in the situation you are facing. We have sophisticated electronic acoustic instrumentation that helps us pinpoint a water leak. While we don’t have the ability to see through the ground, utilizing our services helps give you the best chance of a successful dig the first time.
Our leak detection services specialize in underground water leaks. We work in all sizes of systems from a residential home owner to mobile home communities to municipal water departments. No Leak Is Too Small! Except for the ones that are! On average a water leak needs to be above ½ gallon a minute or greater to be sensed by our equipment. The premise of leak detection is that water under a minimum pressure of 30+ psi makes noise when there is a leak or break in the system. Our sophisticated electronics are designed for this very purpose of finding that noise. A sensor is placed on either side of the suspected leak, and a computer analyzes the data to determine the distance the suspected leak is from each sensor. This process is called correlation. A prowler water technician then confirms this location by physically listening over the water line with acoustic listening device to verify the leak’s location.
With the most modern leak detection technology available at your disposal, you have the greatest chance of a successful dig. The goal of using our services for municipalities is to avoid a dig that keeps expanding into a 40’ trench. For homeowners we locate your service line, pinpoint testing, and repair strategies. While our goal is always pinpointing, once we complete testing and analysis, we will give our best repair recommendations based on your specific layout, and sometimes that does end up meaning replacement. Prowler water services are not just about our pinpointing services, but our combined expertise. After so many years of working with waterworks professionals, we benefit from the plethora of ideas that people have used to approach the complex needs that we come across.
Different Types of Leak Detection
Digital Acoustic
Our professionals listen for a water leak over solid asphalt, concrete, or stone surfaces. The sound of a pressurized leak concentrates on these surfaces. When we are in the area closest to the leak the sound is magnified by our devices. The technician will analyze the sound to determine if the noise we hear is a water leak. The intensity of the sound helps narrow the location, and narrowing the frequency spectrum also helps us understand that we are listening to a water leak.

Computerized Correlation
We offer both analogue and live correlation methods. Analogue – records the sound then analyzes the data. Live correlation is just as it sounds. Microphones listen to the leak and a computer analyzes it all at once. Correlation is the use of a computer to analyze the sound of a pressurized water leak. The device is placed on points of contact on both sides of the leak. An example would be where the service line enters the building, and the curb stop at the road. After a period of time the sound is then analyzed by the computer, then specific information regarding the materials of the waterline in question and distance are entered, and the computer will determine if a leak is heard and give an estimated distance to look for the leak. Each correlation method offers different benefits and one or both may be necessary to accurately find a leak.
Tracer Gas
Tracer Gas is used to pressurize the service line or main in question. If the line has a leak the pressure will drop and the gas will make a noise we can hear with the above devices mentioned to pinpoint a leak. This works best with non-pressurized lines ie: a newly installed water main on a private system

Line Insertion Mic
While the water service line is still live, a mic is sent down the service line on a fiberglass push rod when it arrives at the break in the line there is a tremendous noise. – This is for service lines that are 150’ or less. This method is recommended to be used on plastic service lines when the leak is hard to find. Inquire for more details
